TWR National Historic District in the news
Read all about it in this Sun Times article, and many thanks to Bill Cunniff for a well-written story. Photo of the 6700 block of N. Talman from the Sun-Times.
Meribeth Brewe: Sun Times story was great. We lived at 6628 North Talman for over 30 years. The story said you researched builders/permits for the homes. I wonder if you have information on 6628 North Talman, not a bungalow, but an American four square home. We never knew who the early history of the home. If you do, I would so much appreciate you contacting me. I don't know if you also know that the movie Stolen Summer was filmed at a home on the 6700 block of North Talman.
Hi Pat, Glad you enjoyed the article, and thanks for the reminder about Stolen Summer, I'd forgotten about that!
At the time of the 1930 census, the home at 6628 N. Talman was owned and occupied by Charles & Mae Leffert and their 5 children. Charles was 42 years old and employed as an awning manufacturer. He paid $17,000 for the house, which was built in 1923 by R. Arbogast at a cost of $8,000
I don't have a way to reach you directly, so hopefully you'll see this message... MB
There is a $15.00 per household annual fee for those who wish to become WRBN members.
Don’t own a bungalow? Anyone who is interested in our meetings or tours is welcome to attend and / or become a WRBN member.
Regular meetings are open to all and free of charge. Due to budget/hours reductions at our public libray, we're now exploring alternative meeting locations. Tours and parties are free of charge for members who have paid the annual $15.00 fee.
